Once upon a time, to visit a new retail store you had to drag your arse up off the couch, pull on a tracksuit and a pair of thongs, find the location in a street directory then catch up to three buses to get there. Nowadays you can do it from the comfort of your laptop. Here’s a look round the store that our UK cousins have just opened in Cornwall.
ARISTOCRACY OF THE BEACH
As Crocodile Dundee might have said had he been bailed up by a bunch of N.Y. surfers brandishing another poorly stenciled surfboard and not an over sized scalpel:
“That’s not a surfboard. THAT’S a surfboard”.
Created by designer, David McKay for a Mambo exhibition, we liked it so much that we bought it off the plan. Upholstered ‘Chesterfield’ style in genuine leather, the closest this little beauty ever gets to water is when the toilet backs up and floods the downstairs showroom.
GONE BURQUAS
Last week, three members of the Mambo design team just happened to be in the inner-Sydney suburb of Enmore, sampling the hops based product of a hotel 50 kilometers from their usual ‘local’ when they came across three hooded individuals of similar build and complexion to themselves applying some graphic “comment” to a racially provocative and controversial piece of local signage.
